Cyber Security

Overview
Cyber Security is CIS College’s 45-hour program in information security and internet awareness. It is built for anyone who wants to understand how organizations are attacked and how to defend against it, from the fundamentals of networking and the internet through to the threats, malware, and defensive tools used in the field today.
You will learn to recognize the warning signs of malicious activity, understand the categories of security that protect a business, and apply the countermeasures professionals use to shore up their defenses. The course builds a strong foundation in defensive security and prepares you for a career in the field or for strengthening the security posture of your own organization.
What You Will Learn
- Understand computer and network fundamentals, including the OSI model and internet components
- Explain what cyber security is and why it matters, through the CIA triad of confidentiality, integrity, and availability
- Identify the categories of cyber security, including network, application, endpoint, data, email, web, and cloud security
- Recognize major cyber threats such as DoS/DDoS attacks, SQL injection, zero-day exploits, and cross-site scripting
- Identify types of malware, including viruses, worms, spyware, ransomware, rootkits, and botnets
- Build strong personal and organizational security habits, from password management to spotting fraudulent websites
- Apply countermeasure tools such as firewalls, antivirus software, VPNs, encryption, and intrusion detection systems

| Cyber Security Awareness | Identity theft, password hygiene, safe device use, and recognizing fraudulent websites |
| Countermeasures | Firewalls, antivirus and anti-malware tools, VPNs, proxies, encryption, and intrusion detection and prevention |
