Fashion Design Level 3

Overview
Fashion Design Level 3 is the advanced level of the CIS fashion design program, where you take everything learned in pattern making and garment construction and apply it to a full, self made collection. Over 24 hours, you will refine your pattern and muslin work, expand into new stitches, closures and finishing techniques, and learn how to present your work like a professional designer.
The level closes with a full collection project: pattern pieces and finished garments on muslin or real fabric, built entirely by you and presented on a set deadline. This is also where you are introduced to the business side of fashion, from branding and packaging to understanding your market.
What You Will Learn
- How to execute more advanced pattern and muslin pieces, adding your own creative touch to what you learned in Level 2
- Different types of stitches, including baby hem and regular basting
- How to create fabric dimensions, volume, stitching and texture
- The differences between natural and synthetic fabrics, using real fabric samples
- Different closure techniques such as zippers and buttons, and finishing techniques such as ourlet and French seam
- Sewing machine practice on garments you have already made
- Technical, or flat, drawing
- The basics of branding, logos, cost sheets, packaging and choosing your fashion identity
